Dried apricots - why do I like the Sun Maid ones so?

Postby teo » Sat Aug 20, 2005 11:59 am

Hello and health,

I just looooove the Sun Maid brand of dried apricots, I can leave one on my tongue for 15 minutes! The "turkish" and "persian" ones don't have the tart citric-acid taste that I think I love so much?!?

Any idea what it is that makes them so tart compared to other ones? Is it perhaps an unhealthy additive (they say Sulphur Dioxide for preservative)? My dear grandmother used to say, joking: "All the preservatives we eat, they preserve us!" but seriously...

Why do I like those ones so? Could it be unhealthy additives I seem to like?

Hungrilly and thankfully yours,

Teo

Your tongue likes the "sour" taste.

bitter - Bitter tastes (like the taste of tonic water) are mostly sensed towards the back and rear sides of the tongue.

salty and sweet - Salty tastes and sweet tastes (like sugar) are mostly tasted at the tip of the tongue.

sour - Sour tastes (like lemon juice) are mostly tasted at the sides of the tongue, at the middle and towards the front.

It could very well be, but it could also be that your tongue likes this taste better.

Thank you googols Anne-Marie! This reminds me a friend's suggestion to cure a headache had a part where you visualize WHERE in the head it is, now I'll try and figure out the parts of the tongue that are tantalized by the taste.. interesting!

I used to eat pickles and such like there was no tomorrow, jalapeno peppers whole and such... perhaps I battered my lil' taste buds and now they want/need the tartness.. or.. maybe I simply like the taste!

I'll keep munching on the Sun Maid brand ones, yummy, and have fun figuring out how each part of the tongue likes them! :P

Thanks for the oh-so-informative reply! Love and light being, Teo

I just wanted to update:

I was in California and at Trader joe's there were EXTRA CHOICE APRICOTS, Grown in California, and I just loooove them!

So it must not be any toxic addatives anyway! Whew!

Love and LIGHT BEING,
Teo
